The One With CBD Oil
Did You Know…
We have only known about mammals having an endocannabinoid system since around 1992? That’s not very long!
However, we have known about CBD oil since approximately 1940. So, we have dilly-dallied around for almost 80 years in the cannabidiol (CBD) realm, which is far too long.
Of course, that is my opinion…but ask anyone who has been addicted to opioids how they feel about CBD being classified illegal while opiates have killed and ruined so many people’s lives.
I can almost guarantee you that they will say that they feel they have been royally screwed over by big pharma and the medical profession. It’s how I feel, for sure!
Opioid Crisis & Addiction
This country has been experiencing waves of tragedy when it comes to opioid use and addiction! The most current wave is fentanyl.
Unfortunately, I know personally, what a demon fentanyl is. The doctor had me on 100mcg (highest dose) patches every 72 hours PLUS oxycodone or morphine tablets. That was the most difficult detox I’ve done in my entire life.
I was on opioids for at least 2 decades! Which is absolute nonsense when we had a perfectly safe, more appropriate, and better health benefits choice in CBD oil.
In the US, when you fall, have a car accident, saw a limb off accidentally, etc… these scenarios all warrant opioids. Which is totally warranted. The doctor patches you up, gives you some opioids, and then that’s it!
Basically, it’s; figure your life out on your own after that accident. I know this is true because my grandma had a terrible car accident which broke her back and leg. She was in physical rehab (skilled nursing facility) for months. This was the beginning of her opioid addiction.
It wasn’t until I moved in with her, to help care for her, that I began finding darvaset, hydrocodone, and vicodin bottles all around the house. These are all relatively the same prescription drugs.
Doctor’s Say “It’s OK”
So, I find all of her prescription bottles and I am panicked. I ask if I can go with her to the next doctor’s appointment, and she was fine with that.
I asked her doctor about these pills being addictive and the doctor said, “Well…so what if she’s addicted. She needs them! It’s OK for her to have them, she’s in pain”.
If that doctor would have spoken to the Christy you know TODAY…the doctor would have been reported to the medical board! That Christy back then, though, trusted everything that doctors said.
So, when I had 3 car accidents that really wreaked havoc on my neck, back, and musculoskeletal system and was then prescribed opioids, I didn’t think anything about it. Because, “it’s OK to have them, I’m in pain”.
I became addicted, and it ruined my health and life! After opioids ruined my immune, bowel, and nervous systems…I required more prescriptions.
My all-time lowest point of my life was when I needed 16 prescriptions administered 1-3 times per day, couldn’t urinate on my own (I had a suprapubic catheter), I had MANY chronic illnesses, was in palliative care, had a home health aid, and was bedridden and dying.
But several doctors have said to me and my Grammy (by this time) that we required all of these medications. I thought we just had really bad genetics. During this time frame, I also thought that Type 2 diabetes was hereditary.
Are you wondering who told me these things??? Hint: starts with “D” and ends with “R”. Doctor(s).
It wasn’t until I began my healing journey that I began to understand that most of our conditions stem from diet, toxicity, and acidity. We will have to do another blog post for that subject, sometime.
Hell to the Naw!
Look, we may require opioids post surgical care, after a car accident, or if we have an illness like cancer thrashing our bodies…but we need doctors to provide natural care alongside the opioids too.
We deserve treatment timelines and clear-cut expectations from our doctors. We deserve for them to give a damn about our well-being and not the bottom line.
If you ask me to see a western medicine doctor today…I will probably say, “hell naw!”
They aren’t skilled or educated in the wellness realm (for the vast majority, that is)! The are usually educated in how to diagnose, send to surgery, and to prescribe medications.
Today, if you were to ask me who would I turn to if I had a physical condition that I could not take care of on my own, I would tell you that I would see a functional medicine doctor. I highly recommend these amazing folks for everyone’s care.
What if CBD had been legal sooner?
What if my Grammy or I never had to have opioids?
I will never know those answers. What I do know is that I more-than-likely would not be here passionately talking about natural health and remedies if I hadn’t lived through such difficult health scares.
For me, if CBD oil wasn’t treated like an illegal substance up until recently, I may have had a much different life.
What is an Endocannabinoid System?
“We Have an Endocannabinoid System…
NOT an opioid system” ~Christy Underwood
All mammals have endocannabinoid receptors all throughout their bodies. These receptors are responsible for MANY bodily systems. Check out this graphic: Please note that E.C.S is the abbreviation for “endocannabinoid system”.
As you can see, the E.C.S. is involved in nearly every system that we have.
Sadly, as we age, our receptors do deplete. So, can you imagine how youthful and healthy you’d feel if there was a substance that could replenish those receptors and bring forth homeostasis!
Enter in: CBD Oil! YEEHAW!
While we can’t change the past, we can change our future! We can also be a beacon to anyone that may suffer an accident, illness, or injury. I feel it is our job to help folks make the choices that will be better for their health.
So, let’s help our fellow humans not suffer the opioid addiction and crisis like we had to!
Let’s get “OILY”!
